Nia Sanchez: Our Current Miss USA
Nia Sanchez is 25 years old and is from Las Vegas, Nevada. Originally, Nia was born in Menifee, California, but she recently moved to Las Vegas. Nia is part Mexican and part German. She has worked, visited, and lived in both of these countries before. She absolutely loves to travel and has also lived and visited in Abu Dhabi and Hong Kong working as a nanny and carrying out mission trips with her church.
When Nia was seven years old, her parents divorced and she was placed in a very tough situation. Her mother was financially unstable and Nia, her younger brother, and her mother had to live in a women’s shelter for several months. Eventually, Nia moved in with her father, and he signed her up for Taekwondo to help Nia with all of the changes occurring within her family. Currently, Nia is a fourth degree black belt.
“Taekwondo taught me a lot about myself; it gave me leadership skills and confidence, as well as a greater general awareness of everything around me,” says Nia. “I went from never wanting to be in class to begging my dad to bring me six days a week which prompted him to buy a studio of his own,”
Nia competed for national titles in the U.S and eventually became an instructor. Her father still runs and owns their studio today in Southern California.
Besides traveling and Taekwondo, Nia loves being outside and participating in sports. She loves to hike and be within nature. She also likes to read and is currently looking for a book club to join!
After becoming Miss Nevada USA, Nia began to volunteer at a women’s shelter in Las Vegas due to her experience living in a shelter. Many of the women living in this shelter experienced domestic violence. Nia used her passion and knowledge in Taekwondo to teach these women self defense.
When becoming Miss USA on June 8, 2014, Nia continued to use her passion and knowledge for Taekwondo by traveling to different schools in the New York area to teach students self defense. Nia is also a spokesperson for breast and ovarian cancer education. She has worked closely with Gilda’s club, Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, Project Sunshine, and Best Buddies along with many other programs.
Nia was the first titleholder from Nevada to bring the crown back to her state. When moving on to compete in Miss Universe back in January 2015, competing with 87 other women from all across the world, Nia placed first runner up (second place) representing USA! Nia has had a great reign as Miss USA. She has definitely left her mark, but after passing on the crown, she has something new to look forward to: A WEDDING! Nia is currently engaged to actor Daniel Booko. They will be getting married in the near future.
THANK YOU NIA SANCHEZ FOR A WONDERFUL YEAR AS MISS USA!
